A somewhat easy skill to do, sweating a copper pipe is a must know for DIY enthusiasts. It might not look beautiful the first couple of tries, or it might even leak, but with practice, you’ll become a copper pipe sweating master in no time, and your properly sweated joints will last for decades.

First step is to clean the end of your pipes thoroughly all the way down to bare metal with a wire brush. Next step is to apply flux paste to ensure a clean contact surface for the solder. Combine the two pieces of piping and using a handheld propane torch, start heating up the fitting.

Finally, start melting the flux paste making sure that it fills the joint between the pipe and the fitting completely.

Congratulations! You should now have a perfect seal between the pipes and the fittings ensuring you won’t have nasty leaks down the line.
